It has been a fantastic term at Gorsey Bank for all our pupils and local community, as we near Christmas, all sorts of festive activities have taken place across the school. To end a brilliant term, we have wrapped up some of the highlights from the last few months…

Pupil Parliament Week

A discussion lead by one of Gorsey Bank pupils for Pupil Parliament Week

For UK  Parliament Week 2023 we focused on the skills required for debating. Each year group conducted their own debates – just like in  Parliament! They used formal language and sentence starters to introduce and rebut ideas. This opportunity allowed the children to practise articulating their own views and respectfully challenge the ideas of others – skills that will prepare the children for the outside world.

Aspirations Week

Pupils engaging in activities from Aspirations week.

Gorsey Bank pupils took part in a range of activities designed to inspire them and help them explore the jobs they might aspire to have in the future.

Aspirations Week is a bi-annual event we have run for many years, intended to encourage our pupils to aim for great things – not only for themselves but also for the people and communities around them. The week is structured around an array of visits from guests who come into school with inspiring stories about how their roles make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Forest School Fun

Forest School is an educational approach to outdoor learning and is designed to inspire all individuals through positive outdoor experiences. Our Forest School is located on our school grounds in the woodland at the side of our school field. Every academic year, every class at Gorsey Bank has a series of Forest School sessions encompassing art and creative skill as well as bushcraft, den building, bug hunting – usually rounded off by the obligatory hot chocolate!

Nativity

Pupils dressed up in their nativity costumes.

Each year, our pupils really look forward to the nativity and they always embody the characters. While this is an exciting and interactive performance, it is also an opportunity for our pupils to learn all about advent and the nativity. They all did a fabulous job this year with lots of energy and worked hard learning their lines.

24K in 24 Hours

Gorsey Bank pupils playing tennis

Pupils at Gorsey Bank Primary School were delighted to take part in the helping our school charity, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT), raise 24k in 24 hours. The children thoroughly enjoyed the mass sports afternoon we held in October. They all showed great spirit and learned about the importance of giving back to others through supporting charities. They took part in sports such as tennis, hurdles, races and much more.

That’s a wrap!

From all of us at Gorsey Bank Primary School, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
